Why drones

Drones can radically change how we respond to emergencies in the UK. Whether it’s in a remote area or urban setting, they are perfectly placed to get there quickly and provide critical intelligence or emergency equipment.

Drone as First Responder

“With climate change we estimate the total properties in the area at risk of flooding from the sea will increase by 27% between 2036 and 2069”

Environment Agency, GOV.UK

  1. Severe flooding cuts off a residential area. The main access bridge has collapsed.

  2. Emergency services can’t safely access the area to assess how many people are trapped.

  3. A drone is dispatched, flight over the floodwater with no obstacles.

  4. Live intelligence from the drone reveals a family stranded in their home.

  5. The drone’s data helps emergency services identify the fastest and safest evacuation route. They can now respond with precision for a quick, efficient rescue.

Lifesaving Equipment Delivery

“Every minute without cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by up to 10%.”

British Heart Foundation

  1. A couple are in their garden when one collapses from a cardiac arrest

  2. 999 is dialled. The Emergency Call Handler realises a major road incident will cause ambulance delays

  3. A drone is dispatched from a local launch station, flying directly to the garden with a defibrillator on board

  4. The Call Handler stays on the line, guiding the partner to retrieve and use the defibrillator

  5. The patient is stabilised and out of immediate danger until the ambulance arrives to provide further care. Their recovery prospects have improved as a result.
